Type of Findings (Clasps, Ear Wires, etc), Sizing of Necklaces, etc.

"Findings" is the jewelry-speak name for all of the bits and pieces that are used in making different jewelry items.  Clasps, ear wires, connectors, rings, etc.  Keep scrolling down for sizing information. Please click HERE for a glossary of JEWELRY TERMS you might see on our item descriptions.

Please note everything on this page is just a guideline.  Brands and final shapes may vary.  These are just examples in any given category, but will give some basic guidance.

Types of Clasps

Balloon Lobster clasp, often used in women's and children's necklaces and some bracelets.

Traditional Lobster clasp, used on some bracelets, most men's necklaces, and some women's items, depending on the size of the clasp.
Swivel Lobster Clasp - these turn 360 degrees.  Very helpful for medical bracelets, and bracelets with lots of use/wear.
Figure 8 Lobster clasp, usually used in larger or heavier items needing something sturdy.
Toggle clasps are not adjustable, but they look really neat, can be used as a design component in the front of the necklace, and also are great for those with arthritis or trouble fastening small clasps.
Hook and eye clasp.  Used many ways - often on the front of a necklace as a design component.  Easy to use.
S Hook Clasp. Same as the hook and eye, just another take.  I use these on a lot of my adjustable cuff bracelets.

Types of Ear Wires

These are just examples.  Ask if you have specific questions =)

Ball-end loop wires. Many versions.  I usually make these in-studio.  A favorite.
Basic coil, ball, coil-and-ball, etc.  These are very common plain "french" ear wires.
Basic Post earring.  Some have half-ball tops, some are full.
Bali-style ear wires.  Usually hallmarked by an antiqued, sometimes ornate look.  Very decorative and generally quite strong.
Basic Leverbacks.  I love these for long or heavier earrings.  More secure.  The come in many shapes, but this is the most common.
Kidney wires.  These have really grown on me over the years.  Both secure and lightweight.  Simple.  Often of a lighter gauge wire.
Stud earring.  These are usually gemstone, small designs, etc.  A thousand different styles are possible!!

Necklace Sizing

WOMEN -

Being a "plus sized" (or whatever size-friendly term you'd like) woman, I know that body sizes matter when buying a necklace.  I've found this one to be pretty accurate.  Remember, it's just a guideline.  I'd suggest measuring if unsure.  Use a string or cord, find the length you like, then measure it.  Remember, the thicker the chain (or beads, etc), the longer the necklace needs to be (3D shapes decrease length).

MEN -
I was unable to find a size-friendly chart for men. This is a good guideline for SWP men -  I'd suggest measuring if unsure.  Use a string or cord, find the length you like, then measure it.  Remember, the thicker the chain (or beads, etc), the longer the necklace needs to be (3D shapes decrease length).
CHILDREN & CHART -
Again, these are just a guideline.  Bodies vary.  I'd suggest measuring if unsure.  Use a string or cord, find the length you like, then measure it.  Remember, the thicker the chain (or beads, etc), the longer the necklace needs to be (3D shapes decrease length).

Bracelet Sizing:

Please note - this is a guideline.  A cord or string will also work.  (Not for BANGLES - scroll down for those.)

Ring Sizing:

Again, this is a suggestion and guide.  If you have questions, please ask.

Bangle Sizing:

Again, this is a suggestion and guide.  If you have questions, please ask.

Bangle sizing has nothing to do with your wrist ;)  The measurement above is the important one.
